Johnny Ridden AKA The Crimson Lightning was one of the many pilots who fought for the Principality of Zeon during the devastating One Year War. His nickname was originally said to be the Red Blitz, but this was later retconned into the Crimson Lightning Johnny Ridden is one of the greats polights zeon has but is often mistaken for Char. Ridden: "Hey, I've heard of you. The White Wolf, right? Nice to meet you." Matsunaga: "Oh, this is a pleasure. I didn't expect to meet with the famous Red Comet." Ridden: "! I'm not the Red Comet; I'm the Crimson Lightning!" Matsunaga: "Oh, I'm terribly sorry. Then, I'm counting on your support, Crimson Lightning Char Aznable." Ridden: "... Forget it..." Matsunaga: "Hm? What's wrong, Char?" Furthermore, Char Aznable himself has heard of him, but is confused as to his nickname, referring to him as the Crimson Nightmare or the Red Nova. Needless to say, Ridden is less than amused. his first suit is a MS-06R-2 Zaku II High Mobility Type but he is more well knowen for his MS-14B Gelgoog High Mobility Type Theme

MS-06R-2 Zaku II High Mobility TypeThe Zaku II High Mobility Type was originally intended as a space use replacement for the old Zaku II, part of many MS development programs. Due to the cancellation of the MS-11 Action Zaku, the Principality used the MS-06R-2 Zaku as the temporary replacement. The R-2 Zaku was much lighter than its R-1A predecessor and had extra armor on the legs. However, the fact that the R-2 used the R-1A's reactor meant that it could not use beam weapons. Only four units were produced before the MS-09R Rick Dom was chosen as the new space combat MS. The four units were assigned to Major Johhny Ridden (painted red and black), Lieutenant Colonel Gabby Hazard (painted blue and beige), Colonel Robert Gilliam (painted orange and black) and the fourth unit was given to test pilot Elliot Lem, which eventually evolved into the MS-06R-3S High Mobility Type Zaku. In the Spirits of Zeon video game, the fourth unit is assigned to Kurt Roswell (painted maroon and gray).

Gelgoog High Mobility TypeWhen the Principality of Zeon Zeon military began field testing of its MS-14S Gelgoog prototype mobile suits during the last weeks of the One Year War, it was already hard at work on variants of the powerful new Gelgoog line. One of the first variants to be produced was the MS-14B Gelgoog High Mobility Type only twelve of the original twenty-five MS-14Ss would be modified into this B-type during field testing by the Ace Corps, which included Zeon's famous "Crimson Lightning" ace pilot, Major Johnny Ridden. When the Gelgoog line went into mass production, an additional 55 B-type Gelgoogs were produced, participating in the Battle of A Baoa Qu at the end of the war.
