Ever since she can remember, she's had a few nicknames. At age 3, she was living on the streets of Amethyst IX as Sarah.
When she turned 6, she was recruited into the Spartan program, and met Tom, Kelly, Nina, Jenna, and Jake. They were all instantly friends as they all understood each other. They'd all had to learn fast to survive on their home worlds.
She trained for nearly a year, and then mysteriously vanished from the UNSC training grounds. Very few knew that she had been taken away during an outside base training exercise by a Sangheili, a member of their enemies, the Covenant.
For 10 years, Sarah became Kira, hidden one, training with Zhar in the ways of the Covenant, Honor, and Swordsmanship. The Sangheili had it tough in training, but Kira had it harder, as she was an outsider, female, and had no idea about the war until much later.
Shortly after turning 16, she was on an information extraction mission onboard one of the UNSC's vessels and was caught in the act. She sliced several of the marines in half with her black-blade Katanas she received from Zhar, but at the same time, her Shipmaster, Tsak, was firing on the vessel's engines, and it knocked several panels out from the overload. Falling debris knocked her back into an open panel, and the voltage made her heart stop, and killed her... Or so they thought.
Several hours later, she awoke in a holding cell. She cursed and shouted at them in the Sangheili tongue, but their translators were not yet sophisticated enough to translate most of what she said. After 3 hours of getting nowhere, they asked Tom to come in. The indistinct shouts, turned into a single soft word when she saw him.
A single word became many when she'd tried to defend herself and her actions (the inquisitors seemed outraged she'd known how to speak English the whole time and had simply refused). The rage had gone, and she remembered who she was, but did not want to let go of what she'd been taught over the last decade.
Until there was a time she could be trusted again, she was placed back under Tom's leadership of their team, the Shadow Spartans. The team had been created specifically for stealth missions, and they were the perfect fit for it. Rebels nearby important UNSC bases didn't stand a chance. The UNSC avoided sending the team to do Covenant recon after adding her as to not risk losing her again.
After several months of good behavior and relearning their system, she officially completed her UNSC training with augmentation and a Spartan suit. They did not have long to celebrate though. The team was soon sent to Reach to deal with the Covenant invasion there. The team was separated in battle, and 116 was yet again lost, presumed dead.
She had died yet again on Reach after receiving a Plasma Blade to the heart. Unknown to the UNSC, she revived, and escaped the glassing on a longsword. The ship's engines ruptured during a slipspace jump, and landed at the doorstep of Combaticon Emperor Nightmare.
Unable (or unwilling) to go home, she spent the next few years trying to get to know the Emperor (and dodging his attempts to kill her). She'd eventually managed to visit without the threat of being maimed and proceeded to tell him anything she knew about the UNSC, and the Spartan program.
She helped to train some of his soldiers, and eventually told him how she was there to see him at all; why she hadn't stayed dead. Her violet necklace had saved her life. The unique amethyst-like stone helped her channel her aura, and amplified it so she could teach herself how to use it over the years. She had gotten so strong in its use, her very soul had stayed with her by storing itself in the necklace when she died, and later revived her and healed her wounds.
She still ages, and is trying to find a way to at least slow it down, but it is unlikely she will ever truly die until she reaches an age that she can no longer protect the people she cares for.
The only way to kill her until then is to shatter the necklace, and only a strong and very talented aura user can do that.
